SFM has the ability to fabricate a 19′ diameter transition ring which is consumed during the steel making process. Due to overall size and weight, each ring is comprised of four sections that are welded together to make one part. A specialized fixture was built by Soo Foundry to support and level the part while it was being fabricated, and it held the 1/8 overall flatness tolerance. Holes are cut using our CNC plasma table and components are handled with the use of our 22- and 50-ton overhead cranes. The final assembled part is shipped by truck in one piece to the end user with police escorts.
